Jenny Darroch has proven leadership experience in a range of different contexts and countries, including her current role as dean of the nationally-ranked Farmer School of Business (FSB) at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Miami is a large, comprehensive, public university. FSB boasts a current enrollment of around 5,000 students (most of whom are Gen-Z), employs approximately 170 faculty and 60 staff, has annual revenue of around $85m and an endowment of close to $130m. FSB alumni are extraordinary – for example, 14 Fortune 1000 firms are currently headed by Miami alumni, 12 of whom are graduates of the business school; the FSB has more partners at EY than from any other university; and Miami ranks in the top-15 among public universities for graduating leaders across all sectors of society.
Prior to her current role, Jenny was dean of the Drucker Graduate School of Management, the only management school within the prestigious Claremont Colleges consortium in Southern California. The Drucker School was named after Peter Drucker, the father of modern management and a professor at the school for just over thirty years. The school was, and still is, a pioneer in graduate and executive education.
Before moving to the USA in 2004, Jenny was Director of Entrepreneurship at the University of Otago in New Zealand. Here, Jenny launched New Zealand’s first master’s degree in entrepreneurship, set up a city-wide incubator in Dunedin, New Zealand, used a government grant to seed teaching and research in entrepreneurship at the university, and worked closely with the university’s technology transfer office. Two goals of the entrepreneurship program were to retain talent and support economic growth in the region.
Her academic career has spanned more than 30 years. During this time, Jenny has gained extensive international experience, developed a keen interest in how technology can enhance learning, and demonstrated a passion for ensuring all students can benefit from the opportunities an education provides. She has also been an advocate for women in leadership.
Earlier in her career, Jenny worked in brand management in the fastmoving consumer goods sector, marketing research consulting and supply chain consulting. She also helped run a family-owned supply chain consulting firm for over four years. Jenny has worked with a wide range of clients in the US including Red Gate Software, Roche Diagnostics, BD Biosciences, Pfizer, Amgen, 54Gene, Ascendis Pharma, Toyota, Coast Hills Federal Credit Union, Partners Federal Credit Union and the California Police Chief Association.
Jenny is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and serves on the US board of Red Gate Software. Jenny has served on a number of other non-profit boards.
